It's 1959 and Margaret Thatcher is canvassing for the Conservative party in Finchley, North London. Kyle, an Irish Socialist invites her into his home to discuss politics over a cup of tea. Although they have different political ideals, they form a mutual respect for each other, the conversation goes from Thatcher saying not in her lifetime would we get a female Prime Minister to the troubles brewing in Northern Ireland and Kyles idealistic view on how to rectify the situation.
Flashforward to 1983 and again Margaret Thatcher is out canvassing, she pays Kyle a visit once more to discuss politics, this time the conversation becomes more animated, a change in both their characters but the respect for each other is still there. The talks go from the miners strikes, dockers disputes to the escalating troubles of Northern Ireland. Kyle predicts it may not end well... |
